Polaris Ranger Billboard for Dothan Powersports

Thursday, September 15th, 2011

Dothan Powersports does a very good job with outdoor advertising by mixing different displays in different locations.  Different billboards… what I thought all billboards were the same.  No, billboards are not the same.  Dothan Powersports uses a combination of bulletins, rotary posters, and digital billboards. The Polaris Ranger billboard is considered a bulletin.  Bulletins are the large billboards you see beside major artery roads leading in and out of town.  Keep in mind there are bulletins in town at high traffic area.

This bulletin is located on Highway 431 southbound coming into Dothan.  The bulletin is seen by roughly 30,000 cars per day.  Northview High School is located in close proximity to the billboard.  While school is in the amount of traffic increases in this area.  A large amount of beach bound traffic passes this billboard location in spring and summertime. An added benefit is a large portion of the beach bound traffic turns left onto Ross Clark Circle  putting the traffic right to their building.

Average Income Plays a Roll in Ad Campaigns

Wednesday, September 7th, 2011

We have talked a lot about traffic counts and how they can effect your marketing campaign. While traffic counts are very important they are NOT the only thing to pay attention to when working out the details of your marketing campaign.  High traffic counts in a low income area of town might not be the best location versus an area of lower traffic count but higher average income. In other words would you rather have your message in front of more with little disposable income or in front of a few less people with more money to spend?  The answer is simple, it is easier to get potential clients to spend money if they have more of it to spend. Keep in mind this approach assumes your product and/or service appeals to all socioeconomic backgrounds.

Dothan, Alabama is a hub for smaller outlying towns in multiple counties.  Dothan is located in Houston County.  Houston County has an average income of $38,751. When looking at the average earnings statewide Houston County falls roughly in the middle of the ranking.  We recommend taking a good look at surrounding cities and counties. Dale county has a higher median household income at $41,279. Dale County residents regularly travel to other markets in the area to make purchases. With this information and traffic counts in the area you can make a better informed decision about advertising.  Are you currently directing any of your marketing messages to Dale County? If not you should consider it, and Durden Outdoor can help. Dale country is just one example that many marketers in the area may overlook due to preconceived ideas about the area. If you look closely at the numbers you may find some other interesting facts.

Other factors should be considered.  Fort Rucker has a large transient work force.  People travel to and from work on the base.  Fort Rucker has 3 main gates going in and out of the base.  Between civilian employees and active military there is a large number of people traveling throughout southern Alabama. Business in surrounding cities should not overlook this demographic. A large workforce that hosts a large number of people new to the area and has disposable income.

Goldfingers is a Dothan based restaurant serving high quality chicken fingers, burgers, pizza, salads, wraps, and more.  Be sure to check out the awesome sauce they have for their chicken fingers in any of their 3 Dothan locations. I have to admit I eat the sauce with my french fries and chicken fingers.  Goldfingers has been working diligently to build brand identity as they launch their  restaurant business into a full swing franchise.

The initial phase with their restaurant advertising approach was to use the Durden Outdoor 4 Week Rotary Posters.  Goldfingers received a new billboard location every 4 Weeks and altered the message slightly each month to keep the message fresh. By using a total of 4 billboards per month they were able to capture a large section of the Dothan market.

If you would like more information on the 4 Week Rotary program and its benefits be sure to contact our experienced marketing professionals for details.

The Ludlum and Gil Attorneys at Law billboard was a fun project to work on that allowed creative opportunity.  The only direction given from the client the need to target military people and their families.  The design process centered around a patriotic theme using red, white, blue, and a HUGE Eagle. The billboard features two large extensions to allow the eagle to be much more dominate and memorable.  The billboard is targeting Veteran Affairs to protect the American soldiers and their families rights.

Billboard advertising can be a very effective form of advertising.  Key factors can effect the success of failure of a billboard advertising campaign.  Some of the factors to pay attention to include:

  • THE RIGHT MESSAGE
  • Graphic design to effective communicate the message
  • Timing (having the message up in time for seasonal promo, product sales, or allowing the message to stay up for extended periods of time to build brand awareness.)
  • Location (based on target audience)

QR Code Used on a Billboard for The LOCAL

Tuesday, June 14th, 2011

QR Codes are finding their way onto many different forms of marketing.  Retail stores use them to allow smart phone users quick access to product information.  QR Codes are placed on business cards to speed up the process of sharing contact information.  A more recent trend is to place QR Codes on billboards and other outdoor advertising.

When placing a QR Code on a billboard it needs to be in a location with a captured audience so people will have time to safely scan the code with their smart phone.  In Dothan, AL a QR Code was placed on a billboard representing The Local newspaper.  The billboard where the QR code is placed is a high traffic area where people sit for long periods of time waiting for traffic lights to change.  Because of this position viewers have plenty of time to scan the QR code.

Be sure to contact our experienced creative team to see what Durden Outdoor can do to spice up your marketing campaign.
