The Ultimate Famous Maker Passes

The Out-of-Home industry grieves the loss of one of their own. Frankie Stone, Sales Director of Durden Outdoor Displays, Inc., died Thursday, February 4, 2021 due to complications from COVID-19. Frankie began his career as a FAMOUSMaker in 1988 at the ripe young age of 19. He started out on the panel crew at minimum wage before working himself up the ranks over the years to Production Manager. One day, he approached President, Earl Durden, and expressed his interest in sales. While that didn’t quite work out at first, Mr. Durden allowed him to hustle sales on his off days. After proving himself, he finally moved into the sales department, later becoming Sales Director in the early 2000’s managing over 1000 billboard faces. Frankie was one of the most dedicated and loyal individuals that you will ever meet. He enjoyed visiting with people, learning more about their business and helping them become FAMOUS throughout Durden’s 10 county coverage area in southeast Alabama and northwest Florida. He simply loved people. “He was born with a gift of class and a fighting spirit exemplified every day of his 33 year career with our company,” says Earl Durden, president and founder of Durden Outdoor. Frankie was a foster child growing up but would later learn to foster others. He was a mentor to many people who had the privilege of working with him. He always made time for employees and would drop what he was doing to listen and offer advice. He treated his customers the same way. He never was truly “off the clock.” There were many times when he sat in a treestand on Saturday mornings waiting for the perfect buck to come out all while responding to emails, putting proposals together and handling last minute requests that were time sensitive. Frankie was passionate about his work and always put others before himself. “Posting glue ran thru his veins, pumped from a heart full of grace and sincerity” says Bill Durden, Vice President of Durden Outdoor.  “The chemistry Frankie Stone brought to our work family was irreplaceable and he will be sorely missed by many.” Frankie Stone was a frequent attendee of many IBO conferences since 2017.  He leaves behind his wife, Jill, and daughter Hannah who also works as a graphic artist / digital scheduler at Durden Outdoor. Digestive Health: If 2020 Were a Drink

This year has been unlike any other. Most would agree that it has not had a great taste to it. Here’ hoping that taste doesn’t linger.
Digestive Health Services (DHS) was looking for a new summer campaign. Something that would speak to our general disdain for 2020. Never ones to shy away from humor, DHS decided to turn this lemon of a year into lemon aid, err Colon Prep.
The idea was first presented by DHS and our creative team took it and created two ads with a cohesive theme. That theme being alcohol advertisements. If we’re going to speak about 2020 as a cocktail (or mocktail), why not mix it up and pay homage to the classics in look and feel.

Beavers Heist a Five-Star Billboard in Dothan, AL

It’s not everyday that you see a team of beavers trying to steal the show, but in Dothan, AL it is. The FAMOUSMakers are excited to partner with Brunner, an innovative advertising agency, to bring to life Great Southern Wood’s new “Woodland’s Most Wanted” campaign. Great Southern Wood, located in Abbeville, AL, has always been a staple and known nationally for their YellaWood brand pressure treated pine. The new advertising campaign is an extension of their 2018 “Five-Star Backyards” campaign, which inspires DIYers to build their dream backyard. “Through the use of non-traditional YellaWood fans, in this case, a team of beavers, we’re taking a humorous approach to establishing the desirability of YellaWood brand products,” said Chief Marketing officer James Riley. “It’s a fun and engaging way to encourage homeowners to create their own Five-Star Backyard and to demand pressure treated pine with the little Yella Tag.”

This national advertising campaign launched in March 2019 and includes billboards, print, digital, broadcast and in-store signage. For the bulletins, Brunner incorporated 2-dimensional pop outs of the beavers to give it a more realistic feel. The FAMOUS Makers recently won big at the Independent Billboard Operators Conference in Jacksonville, FL. Durden Outdoor Displays, Inc. brought home Best of Show for the Tabor Pest Control Digital Campaign, adding another National Award to the FAMOUS Makers shelf. Dothan’s Largest Pill Bottle Lands on the Southside

Dothan Pharmacy is a local, family-owned pharmacy who was looking to make a powerful statement to Dothan’s southside motorists. After discussing ideas with the client, we determined a large bulletin along one of Dothan’s highest traveled arteries was just what they needed. This billboard’s purpose would be two-fold. Primarily, it needed to announce the new store location. We accomplished this by creating a larger-than-life 12 foot tall pill bottle and added a massive directional arrow to essentially slap drivers in the face and say “HEY! WE ARE OVER HERE!” The billboard also needed to convey to viewers that Dothan Pharmacy is not a big box-store pharmacy, unlike their competitor down the road. But rather friendly, fast and family owned. We thoroughly enjoyed working with these guys and can assure you that if you are in the market for a new pharmacy, Dothan Pharmacy will treat you like family.
